Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery

Bone loss is the result of untreated gum disease, especially later stages such as periodontitis. During this gum disease stage, the bacteria eat away at the jawbone and the ligaments that connect teeth to the bone. The most common cause of bone loss is due to unreplaced tooth loss. This is because the bone resorbs into the body. Replacing missing teeth in your smile is important. At Think Oral Implants and Periodontics, our periodontist, Dr. Ting can offer helpful ways to replace missing teeth in your mouth to resolve your oral health. Place the missing tooth root.

Treatments to help treat bone loss

Bone grafting is one treatment that helps provide bone for patients interested in dental implants. Enough height of the ride is needed to successfully replace teeth with implants. For molars, we need enough width. Bone grafting helps repair damaged and lost bone around teeth from severe gum disease. A bone graft not only replaces this lost bone, but also will act as the jawbone as it regrows.

When your upper back teeth have been removed, your ridge bone will resorb and your sinus cavity will expand. This means that the bones separating the oral cavity and sinus cavity becomes very thin. Dental implants can’t be placed with this thin of bone. A sinus lift gently pushes the membrane lining up and away from the law. Bone graft materials are put into the space where the original sinus cavity was. Once the bone graft material fuses with the jawbone, we can place your implants successfully. Ultimately, not all patients may need bone grafting or a sinus lift, our technology can see your structure clearly to know this before unnecessary treatment is performed.
